History of the Girringun Art Project.

The Girringun Art project began late in 2004. One of the main aims of our art project is to get our tribal groups together to share and pass on traditional art and craft skills to the younger generations, to ensure that our cultural art is not lost with the passing of time or Elders.

The project also involves the promotion of our artworks to create greater awareness and understanding of rainforest Aboriginal culture among the community and visitors, and to promote an income for our people, families and communitites.

Since the project has begun two years ago, we have had a number of traditional art workshops including basket weaving workshops, and have been experimenting with more contemporary techniques such as batik with traditional cultural designs and images.
